When Sven Odia began his career at Engel & Völkers, his most essential office tools were a fax machine and a photocopier. Fast forward 27 years, and he’s at the helm of a global real estate powerhouse. Starting as an apprentice, Odia climbed the ranks to become CEO—an extraordinary journey marked by vision, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.

He took on responsibility early, shaping the company from within and driving its international franchise expansion. From the shores of Mallorca to the skyscrapers of the USA, Odia played a pivotal role in transforming Engel & Völkers into a worldwide brand.

In this powerful book, he shares what true leadership looks like. His message: People don’t follow companies or brands – they follow people. Great corporate culture starts at the top and must be lived every single day.

With honesty and clarity, Odia reflects on his toughest challenges, the vital role of company culture, and how leaders can drive real, lasting change.

A must-read for leaders, entrepreneurs, and anyone ready to write their own success story.

At just 21 years old, Sven Odia set off for Mallorca—even before completing his training as a real estate agent—to become an entrepreneur within the Engel & Völkers network as a licensed partner. After a successful start on the island, he went on to co-found Engel & Völkers International with Christian Völkers just three years later. Under his leadership, the company evolved into one of the most powerful players in the global real estate industry.

One of his greatest achievements: expanding into the United States, where Engel & Völkers became the first non-American brand to establish a lasting presence in one of the world’s most competitive markets.

With unmatched experience in international real estate and expansion across more than 30 countries, Odia has become a true industry authority. Following his departure from Engel & Völkers, he remains active as a shareholder of Sotheby’s Spain and serves on the advisory board of the e-learning company PINKTUM, among other ventures.
